Phyu Sin Saydanar Action Group (PSSAG)

Phyu-Sin Saydanar Action Group (PSSAG) is a registered local NGO founded in September 2014.Headquartered in Yangon, PSSAG is a dynamic and dedicated organization with current operations in Kayin, Rakhine and Ayeyarwady, Sagaing (Nagaland) Regions/States with over 50 local staffs. PSSAG is providing humanitarian assistances to the most vulnerable communities in Myanmar through health, education, WASH, Shelters construction, food and NFI distribution work sectors. Focus on the needs and interests of the community, PSSAG implements its activities by cooperating with Government, UN, INGOs, LNGOs and CSOs. PSSAG has significant capabilities in emergency response and developmental works as well. In 2018, the annual budget of PSSAG was USD 3.5 million and in 2019, the annual budget is planned for USD 5.0 million.

Our mission is to reach out our helping hands to the most vulnerable, underprivileged and marginalized communities in every remote corners of Myanmar through community-based transformational and sustainable actions on emergency relief and sustainable livelihood activities through Rights based approach and gender & conflict sensitivity.

PSSAG is implementing with Government Health Department in “Health and Hygiene Promotion Project” (H2P2), is a 36 months long project intended to provide a) Basic health care services including doctor consultation, treatment and medicine for the poor and extreme poor people of the remote rural and isolated communities; b) Facilitate specialized health services for the extreme poor and vulnerable people through identification of diseases, referral services, support treatment from city base specialized hospitals, providing medicine, operation fees, transportation and other cost; c) Facilitate intensive health education and awareness, camping on preventive health care issues and WASH knowledge, behavior and practices; d) Build capacity of the Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA), Health Promoter and Community Health Volunteers through training and guiding. The major beneficiaries of this project will be the most disadvantaged communities, including the minority Muslim, Christian, Hindus and other remote poor and extreme poor Buddhist communities living in rural areas of Myaungmya and Eimme Township under Ayeyarwady division. This will be a very unique and critical need base service that is not offered by any other health service providers in the proposed areas.

PSSAG’s implemented “Cooperative Formation as a Platform for Economic Empowerment in a Post-Conflict Area” with Access Advisory funded by USAID in 2018 February. PSSAG’s approach focuses on creating scale from the start Multiple savings groups are formed simultaneously and supported over a period of six months to instill savings habits and discipline in the members. The six-month period also allows the identification of nature leaders among the savings group members, who will eventually be trained to become the leaders of the cooperative. PSSAG implemented fellowship program in Kayin State partnership with ActionAid Myanmar in 2015. Building social capital and strengthen human resources and the existing voluntary spirit in Kayin communities is a need for committed and aware young women and men from marginalized groups to emerge as leaders and to facilitate participatory, empowering development and peace building processes in their communities, as well as and positive engagement with state and non-state actors. PSSAG implemented school renovation in 7 schools in Hpa-an Township of Kayin State as PSSAG’s very first project in 2014. The project activities were jointly implemented with FADV. Though the primary school enrollment rate in Kayin is comparable to the national average, almost 13 per cent of children still do not have access to primary education and only about half of all children attending primary school in the State complete their schooling on time.
